TOLEDO (WTOL) - At a meeting held Tuesday evening and hosted by Maumee Valley Country Day School, residents in the Reynolds Rd. corridor shared their opinions about how the former Southwyck Mall property should be developed.
Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner said the original concept of an open air shopping complex might not work because of nearby retail outlets. Talk of a horse farm has also died down. Rather, the mayor said he believes an ice rink serving as the anchor of a Rockefeller Center type of development would work.
Homeowners gave their suggestions.
"Is it out of the question to have a lifestyle center and housing combination, something like Mayberry?" asked south Toledo resident Marcia Keelar.
Maumee Valley Country Day School hosted the meeting. They don't want a strip mall but rather something student or child-centered.
The city doesn't own the Southwyck property but will continue to work with the owners on a plan, a deal and a timetable to breathe new life into the area.
