Davis College to host entrepreneur expo

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTOL) - After months of planning, two area business women are hosting a free entrepreneurial expo at Davis College.

The expo takes place Friday, Oct. 16 from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Davis College located at 4747 Monroe St.

"The idea was to teach people there are ways to take things they already know, take their passions, take their education, their skills, and create a future for themselves," said Mary Managhan with the Expo Planning Commission.

The purpose of the expo, which is titled '"Take control: Discover the entrepreneur in you," is to teach people how to start their own business. Managhan said there is no one type of entrepreneur. "It could be the college graduate. It could be the professional who has been downsized out of a job, looking at what to do now. The mom-preneur, looking to stay home but still make some more money, or somebody considering starting their own franchise."

Nick Nigro, director of career services at Davis College, says the area's jobless population is a group that could think about becoming entrepreneurs. "People are saying, 'Oh, can I do this? Can I afford to do it? What happens if it doesn't go? What about health insurance?'" He says the planning commission chose the vendors they did because they can answer all of those questions.
