NW Ohio home inspector says business is booming

(WTOL) - The home inspection business in Northwest Ohio is skyrocketing because of the large number of foreclosed homes on the market. So much so, that some inspectors believe the market is slowly rebounding.

"I really believe that the residential real estate market in Northwest Ohio has hit its bottom and we are on the way back up," said Seagate Inspections' Jim Johnson.

Johnson believes the $8,000 first time home buyer tax credit is the main reason for the upswing.

The deadline to take advantage of the $8,000 tax credit and get an inspection finished is Nov. 30, unless the government extends the program.

Johnson says the key to getting a good house is an inspection. "Your inspector will be a generalist.  He won't necessarily be an expert in any system, but he's going to have a good general knowledge of all of the systems of the home," said Johnson.

Three main areas of concern for home inspectors are a home's rood, foundation and furnace.

Johnson says inspections gives potential home buyers his assessment of their home, which allows home buyers insight onto potential problems.
