TOLEDO (WTOL) -- Bartering is making a comeback.

Chad Anderson, for example, is a tattoo artist and the owner of Addictive Designs on Alexis Rd. He's looking to trade ink for speed. "I've always wanted a motorcycle since I can remember. I've never had one. I've had dirt bikes and 3-wheelers," said Anderson.

He recently posted an ad on Craigslist saying he'll trade up to $4,000 worth of tattoo work for a motorcycle built sometime in the last 15 years. "It's easier for me to just go ahead and do that service instead of paying the money up front."

Others see it that way, too. Craigslist recently reported that bartering activity jumped more than 80 percent on the site over the past year. The total number of barter posts has gone up 125 percent over the same period.

People are trading everything from cars to lawnmowers. Someone is trading a piece of property in Curtice, OH., for a new roof.

It's all based on the age-old principle of bartering. Anderson said, "It's just an easier way of getting what you want because everybody wants something that somebody else doesn't want."
