PERRYSBURG, Ohio — Beginning in 2019, Penta will put solar panels on a 6-acre field located on a southern area of their property next to the I-75.
There will be approximately 3,100 fixed array solar panels, which means they will be kept facing the same way no matter where the sunshine is.
Once the panels are installed, they are expected to provide for nearly 58% of Penta's electrical needs.
This project is part of a 20-year Power Purchasing Agreement with GEM Energy and First Solar.
Its projected utility bill savings over the next 20 years will be $1.76 million while they will generate 1.27 megawatts of power for the school.
The solar panels aren't just for looks: they will be used for educational purposes, which is a critical component of the project.
"This is the next generation for our students of what they can get involved in if they are going to pursue that construction electricity field and go into the skilled trade. So the curriculum component is going to be huge. we will have live data that we will be receiving daily from the solar field" Penta's Superintendent Ronald Matter said.
The superintendent said he had a meeting with the involved parties on Tuesday to get final details in order.
If all goes smoothly, they will break ground in fall 2019 and be completed by spring of 2020.
