It was around 6:20 p.m. when police say the child "ran out from between two parked vehicles on the west side of West 50th Street" when she was struck by a dark-colored four-door sedan.

Police say the driver did not stop after striking the child.

The child, who has not yet been identified, was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where she died hours later.

Police say the driver has been identified as a 17-year-old girl.

"After further investigation, a female was taken into custody a vehicle was towed in connection with this incident," police said while providing an update Sunday morning.

Saturday night, police had said the vehicle's passenger had been detained.

"Preliminary information indicates that the passenger of the vehicle that struck the child returned to the scene," police said.
