TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - A new round of budget cuts aimed at reducing a deficit estimated at more than $20 million are going into effect for the City of Toledo. For some city workers, Friday was their final day on the job. Some other city workers are switching to a shorter work week, while nearly 50 other city positions are being eliminated.
The mayor's reception desk has been empty since 1 p.m. on Friday. It's due to 5 jobs being eliminated at the mayor's office. They'll now be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.
The mayor admits plans are still being formed to address the changes.
"I don't believe there's a receptionist scheduled for Monday to answer the telephone we'll have to see how we get that addressed," says Finkbeiner.

Another budget move involves many non-union city employees who are now working a 32 hour work week.
"You can't just work harder you also have to work smarter figure out how with fewer resources you are going to keep that level of service delivery, maintenance close to what people have come accustomed to as possible," says Finkbeiner.
Other city offices are keeping normal business hours and the mayor says his office should be the only one scaling back on hours open to the public.
