Jeweler ravaged by fire reopens in Fostoria

FOSTORIA -- A fire that broke out at 6:30 p.m. engulfed several buildings at Tiffin and Main streets in Fostoria on Wednesday. At least seven Fostoria businesses were affected as were some apartments above the stores, reports our media partner, The Courier. News 11 sent a crew to the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Fire companies from Findlay, Washington Township, Tiffin and Bascom assisted the Fostoria fire department. The fire got so intense, they had to fight the fire from outside, fearing a structural collapse.

The mayor of Fostoria told News 11's Jonathan Walsh that three separate buildings were involved; two have a shared wall. At least one shop owner is said to have lived above her shop.

Nanette Schroder said she had to close her ceramics business a few years ago because she couldn't pay the insurance. Nonetheless, "everything I own is in there," she said.

The fire apparently started about 6:30 p.m. in a building at the corner of Tiffin and Main streets. The building houses Fitness and Nutrition by Brett, owned by Brett Cousin, plus Lincoln Mortgage and D's Body Shop.

At 8:08 p.m. firefighters announced they were taking a defensive position and that the fire was on the third floor of the Kaminsky building at 120 S. Main St. and spreading.

No cause has been determined.
