News 11's Dick Berry reports.
Robin Weirauch was out Thursday talking about trade agreements that she claims are costing Americans their jobs. She thinks it's time for a change and time to eliminate what she calls the politics of the past.
She made her comments in Fremont from the empty parking lot of the former TRW Kelsey Hayes plant where 250 people used to make auto parts. Weirauch claims the jobs went to Canada because of trade agreements.
If elected, Weirauch is calling for a moratorium on trade deals. "It's a world market place. There's no doubt about that. But we have to have trade agreements that are keeping and creating jobs in our area. We can't leave families in our area without the ability to provide for themselves. That hurts our communities, and it's a vicious circle.
Weirauch is running against Republican Bob Latta for the 5th Congressional District seat held by the late Paul Gillmor.
A special election will be held December 11.
