James Canterbury is the weekend meteorologist for News 11. He arrived in June 2006 after working as the morning/noon meteorologist for WDTV in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
James earned a B.A. in Electronic Media and Broadcast Journalism from Harding University. He earned his certification in meteorology through the Distance Learning Program at Mississippi State University. He also plans to complete another 4-year degree, this one a B.S. in Geo Sciences from Mississippi State University, very soon.
A child of a large immediate family, family life is important as James is close to all 5 of his brothers and sisters, and all 11 of his nieces and nephews. His older brother served in the Army during the Operation Iraqi Freedom, which James called "a very unnerving time for the entire family."
James was a youth minister for the better part of 8 years from 1998 - 2006 and continues to be a mentor and tutor for kids and teens. Here's something you probably didn't know -- James is a published poet, and he's gradually putting together his first inspirational book geared toward teens and young adults.
James married his wife Amy in October of 2006.
