
Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University. She is currently an anchor on News 11 Your Day, News 11 at Noon, and News 11 at 5:30. She also produces our Health Watch segments.
Melissa is married to former weekend sportscaster Gary Sensenstein. They have three children: daughters Madeline and Gabrielle, and son, Cole. Melissa and Gary also have several animals.
Along with spending time with her children, Melissa enjoys yoga, scrap booking, distance running and often competes in amateur running events.
Melissa also enjoys being involved in the community. Melissa has worked with many local organizations including the Downs Syndrome Society, March of Dimes and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Since arriving at WTOL New 11 in 1989, she has earned numerous awards from professional organizations. She has earned Crystal Awards from Women in Communications, Inc., the Associated Press, Ohio Public Image for people with disabilities, and has been nominated for Emmies from NATAS.
In her capacity as HealthWatch Reporter, Melissa has traveled around the area and around the world to cover stories relating to the Northwest Ohio area. She went to Kiev in Ukraine, a former Soviet Union Province, to follow a group of local doctors performing life-saving heart operations. Melissa also followed local children seeking life-saving treatment in Seattle, WA, and Omaha NE.
Her favorite assignment was traveling to Key Largo, FL with her husband Gary. There the two documented Dolphin Therapy that is used in the treatment of children with neurological disorders.
Before coming to WTOL News 11, Melissa was a weathercaster and reporter for WICD-TV in Champaign, Illinois. Prior to that she was a weathercaster and reporter for WMGC-TV In Binghamton, New York.
