Police shoot bar shooting suspect

Posted: Updated:

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Two men are in the hospital this afternoon following the fourth shooting this year that involved Toledo Police.

Chief Mike Navarre said the incident started as an argument among patrons around 2 a.m. at the Big Shots bar at Central and Albion. The argument escalated, and police said that's when the suspect, Alvin Tate, grabbed a gun and started firing into the crowd.

Michael Lawson was shot in the leg and was treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

Nearby officers responding to the shooting began chasing Tate. The suspect then turned around and pointed a gun at officers, and that's when Navarre says the officers fired at Tate, striking him three times. Police are calling Tate's condition at Mercy-St. Vincent's "extremely critical."

News 11 and WTOL.com will provide the latest details as they become available.
