TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - With temperatures steadily dropping at night, many families are turning the heat on to stay warm.
But what if you don't have that option?
One North Toledo family has been living without heat all week.
When Krystle Vardaman turns up the thermostat, the furnace doesn't kick on creating a bitter situation for Vardaman and her two young kids.
"They shut our gas off," said Vardaman, referring to Columbia Gas.
According to Columbia Gas, it shut off the gas at the customer's request. The Vardamans say they have no idea how that happened.
They've been living in the cold for a week waiting on Columbia Gas to restore service using space heaters in the meantime to stay warm.
"They said there's nothing they can do until next week," said Vardaman. "We paid the bill. We made sure it was done. We called them. They should have been out here in a few days, not wait until next week."
News 11 contacted Columbia Gas and got the Vardamans' service restored.
Columbia Gas wants to warn customers who may be facing shut off, once you get a disconnect notice be proactive. Contact Columbia Gas. They'll set up payment plan.
There are also funds available for those who qualify for assistance.
