MONROE, MI (WTOL) - The Monroe Co. Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in a wooded area in Ash Township.
Preliminary investigations reveals that a 16-year-old male from Carleton, Mich. was operating an ATV with two 17-year-olds, also from Carelton, operating another ATV. All three had shotguns. While riding, one of the shotguns went off, striking the 16-year-old.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Detectives are treating this as a hunting related accident.
The body was transported to the Wayne Co. Medical Examiners Office, pending an autopsy.
