ADRIAN, Mich. (WTOL) - The Lenawee County Sheriff confirms that two people are dead from a single-engine plane crash in a field just north of Heritage Park in Adrian.
Sheriff Jack Walsh says the plane was fully engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived. The two bodies were not found in the burning plane. Investigators say the pilot and passenger were likely thrown from the plane.
John Justice witnessed the crash. He said the plane was on fire as it was coming down. He also said it looked like the wing was loose or falling off.
Investigators are looking into whether the plane wing hit a cell tower.
The plane was en route to Adrian from Pennsylvania. It is believed the two bodies found were the only two people on board the plane and were husband and wife.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is on scene investigating.
