COLUMBUS, OH - The Kroger Co. today announced that it will conclude the lease of its Toledo store located at 559 E. Manhattan Blvd. on Saturday, October 10, 2009.
Bruce Macaulay, president of Kroger's Columbus Division, indicated that Kroger will offer all 559 E. Manhattan Blvd. store associates the opportunity to transfer to another Kroger location within the company. He added that Kroger will also continue its aggressive commitment to Toledo.
During the past six years, Kroger's investment in the Toledo area has totaled over $60 million in new store construction and renovation. New jobs have been created with this investment, bringing Kroger's total Toledo area employment to 2,847 associates. Kroger plans to continue investing in the development of stores in the Toledo area with two projects currently underway. We will be relocating our 1300 Michigan Ave., Waterville store with the opening of a new 80,000 sq. ft. store in late 2010. Kroger is also working with the city and developers to identify an additional Kroger location in Perrysburg.
A strong partner with the Toledo community, Kroger continues building on relationships to help feed the hungry, educate our youth and fund life-saving research. Since 2006, Kroger has supported various charities giving back over $2 million to the Toledo community, including donations to the Toledo Northwest Foodbank, Toledo Komen Race for a Cure, and The Toledo Zoo.
"Kroger is a long time player in the Toledo grocery industry," Macaulay said. "We are committed to this city, this state and our associates and to meeting the needs of our customers by providing the products they want at the prices they deserve."
