3 arrested in Gibsonburg elderly attack

Posted: Updated:

GIBSONBURG (WTOL) - Deputies arrested 33-year-old Jimmy Houston, 32-year-old Paul Bidwell and 32-year-old Ronald Ruby Wednesday morning, July 22.

They say Houston knew Mary and James Kohler and their home in Gibsonburg while trying to sell them guns. That's when detectives say Houston scoped out their valuables, broke in with the other two earlier this month and stole the Kohler's collection of 31 guns and jewelry.

Detectives say the suspects bound up and gagged the elderly couple, throwing Mary down the stairs and James into the fireplace.

"We wanted them to hear the news first. We went to the residence. They were very elated, very happy," said the Sandusky County sheriff, "I think we're as happy as they are, closing a case like this and getting three dangerous criminals off the streets."

Detectives say two of the suspects confessed to the crime, two are drug addicts and one is a person of interest in a homicide from ten years ago in Sandusky County.

The three suspects are:

  • Jimmy Houston, 33, of Woodville, Ohio
  • Paul Bidwell, 32, of Fostoria, Ohio
  • Ronald Ruby, 32, of Toledo
