TOLEDO (WTOL) - We've come a long way from elixirs and apothecaries. But if it's money that ails you, this career could help.

Forbes magazine has released its list of the top 10 best-paying jobs for women. And, apparently, it pays to be a pharmacist.

In fact, Forbes has named pharmacist as the No. 1 top-paying job for women -- with female pharmacists making a median salary of $86,000 a year.

Dr. John Early is the dean for University of Toledo's College of Pharmacy, and he says it's a career built for women.

"Women are likely to be more engaging and show more caring of patients than we men are," Early said.

The trend exploded in the last 30 years as the push strengthened to get women interested in science. Half of all pharmacists in America are women, and, half of the students in UT's College of Pharmacy are as well.

"I really enjoyed chemistry. I had 2 years of chemistry in high school, but I didn't want to be stuck in a lab all day and make the world's next greatest Teflon. So I wanted to actually help people and have human interaction, so I chose pharmacy," said student Ginger Turner.

The UT program lasts for 6 years. So, if you go to college at 18, you'll graduate at 24 making upwards of $100,000.
