FINDLAY, Ohio (WTOL) - It's the talk of the town in Findlay, Ohio. Heritage Christian School is suspending a student for the remainder of the school year for attending his girlfriend's prom at Findlay High School.
"They originally came at me with expulsion," said Tyler Frost.
"Expelled for going to prom?"
"Correct."
The Heritage Christian School principal ended up suspending Tyler for the rest of his senior year, citing the school handbook. It bans dancing and rock music. He's not even allowed to attend graduation.
"They said I needed to come back the Tuesday after graduation and take my finals. As soon as I take my finals, they'll give me my diploma," said Frost.
As you can imagine, this isn't sitting too well with Tyler's parents. "Would I regret the last 11 years of the school? No," said step dad Stephan Johnson, "Do I regret him being there his senior year and all of this? Yeah, I do."
Johnson says he understands the importance of following school rules. "I believe that when he's in school, he needs to follow their rules fully. If he doesn't, he needs to be punished by the school. But once he gets out of school, he needs to live by his mother's rules and my rules."
When asked if he thought about not going to his girlfriend's prom, Frost said, "Yeah, but I already told my girlfriend I was planning on going."
