Official: Ohio swine flu matches deadly strain

Associated Press - April 26, 2009 6:05 PM ET

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An emergency official says the swine flu virus that sickened a 9-year-old Ohio boy is the same strain as the one found in Mexico.

Lorain County Emergency Management Agency spokesman Clifton Barnes says that laboratory tests by the Ohio Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed it was the same strain.

Barnes says the third-grader from northern Ohio traveled all over Mexico with family and visited a farm while he was there. Barnes says the family's travels ended in Mexico City.

Officials say the boy has a mild strain of the virus and is recovering at home.
