CINCINNATI (AP) - A tax protest in downtown Cincinnati has ended with a petition delivered to City Hall urging city officials to reject federal stimulus programs.
Police declined to give an estimate Wednesday, but an organizer says the crowd that spilled over downtown's Fountain Square numbered in the thousands. The protest lasted over an hour with protesters chanting "U.S.A." and singing "God Bless America" while walking to deliver the petition with some 2,700 names.
Tax protests were planned in about two dozen Ohio cities and across the country.
The events are referred to as "Tea Parties" - a name inspired by the Boston Tea Party, in which 18th century American colonists threw tea into Boston Harbor to demonstrate against taxes imposed by the British government.
