WOOD COUNTY, OH (WTOL) - A spring joy ride turned into disaster when a camper caught fire and exploded.
It happened Saturday afternoon on Carter Road about one-half mile north of Sugar Ridge near Bowling Green.
The Wood County sheriff says the owner had just taken the vehicle out of storage and was taking it for a spin. When he turned on the heater, smoke and flames started to fill the cabin.
The driver pulled over and ran into a nearby field, moments before the propane tanks exploded.
Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn says he did the right thing by running into the field.
No word on what sparked the fire.
No one was hurt.
