Kaptur calls for release of unredacted Mueller report

Congresswoman Kaptur said she doesn’t sense a majority of her colleagues in Congress are ready to start impeachment proceedings.

TOLEDO (WTOL) -The Mueller report concluded the Russian government tried to undermine the 2016 U.S. Presidential election but there was no collusion between candidate Donald Trump’s team and Moscow.

But Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur said the one part that irritates her the most is page after page of redacted information by Attorney General William Barr.

“I believe in sunlight on this even if it’s classified briefings only a few members of Congress. But it’s very important to unwind what actually happened in 2016 in our country," she explained.

That’s why Kaptur supports House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler’s effort to subpoena the Department of Justice for a full, unredacted copy of the Mueller report.

She believes the redactions are the opinions of Barr, who she said is acting more like President Trump’s personal lawyer rather than the lawyer of the American people.

“Several people have been charged and are going to jail already and I think that’s just the beginning. We need to track down every single person that tried to interfer in a free election in this country and we need to prevent in in 2020.”

Kaptur said she doesn’t sense a majority of her colleagues in Congress are ready to start impeachment proceedings.

For now, release the full report and move on from there.

“I think there’s a lot that we don’t know and perhaps he was completely foolish and not understand what his own top people were doing," she said.

Kaptur added she’s on the side of protecting and defending the American people from all enemies be it foreign or domestic.

That’s why it’s important to understand what happened in this country in 2016.
