MAUMEE (WTOL) - We’ve been following the conditions long the Maumee River for almost a week. Now that the flooding has stopped, the ice chunks are the main concern among Metropark officials and the Maumee Police Department.
WTOL got an exclusive ride along with Maumee Police to see what the damage looks like throughout the park on Monday. Parts of the roadways are impassible at certain points. Additionally, Riverside Cemetery has a heavy amounts of ice scattered throughout it but the big problem there is that there are multiple areas where the road has just completely caved.
Metropark officials said it could take weeks to clean up.
“We’re hoping, very hopeful that in a matter of weeks we will have this park back open,” said Metroparks spokesman Scott Carpenter.
The Maumee Police seem to agree with that timeline.
“It could take weeks, we're talking about a situation where there are no black top open this time of year. So for us to repair and replace the roadway could take weeks” said Sgt. Tom Hixon of the Maumee Police Department.
Police are reminding people they can be fined up to $2,000 if they driver or walk past the barricades.
