Museum Selfie Day highlights some of Toledo’s gems

Wednesday’s hashtag holiday, National Museum Selfie Day, is one Toledoans, and those visiting, had fun taking part in.

TOLEDO (WTOL) - Whether it’s National Pizza Day or National Call Your Grandmother Day, every day now has a reason to celebrate.

Wednesday’s hashtag holiday, National Museum Selfie Day, is one Toledoans, and those visiting, had fun taking part in.

It's a great excuse to get out and get cultured.

The Toledo Museum of Art, Imagination Station and the Museum of the Great Lakes are within minutes of one another.

“One of my favorite parts about working at the Toledo Museum of Art and in this job is seeing all the pictures that people post when they come here to the museum. We see family photos, we see people looking at art, pretending to be art, and we see lots and lots of selfies,” said Social Media and Digital Communications Manager of the Toledo Museum of Art, Stephanie Elton.

As a reminder, the Toledo Museum of Art and the Manor House at Wildwood Metropark are free to attend.

The Museum of the Great Lakes is offering free admission to currently furloughed government workers through the end of January.

Between the Imagination Station, the rest of the many Metroparks, the Firefighters Museum and more, you can be the social media talk of the town with all those selfie opportunities!

Imagination Station will also be open on Monday, for the Martin Luther King Day holiday, if you're looking for something to do with the family.

"Museum Selfie Day was started in 2015 by some museum enthusiasts to really celebrate and share all the fun things that happen at museums," said Elton.

There are many other museums in Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio, and what might be considered tourist destinations throughout our area.

We often take for granted what the city we live in has to offer.

Don't miss the chance to take your best selife right here at home.

Happy #MuseumSelfieDay!
