DEFIANCE (WTOL) - Soon, a bridge over the Maumee River in Defiance will be closed for months.
The Clinton Street bridge will soon be completely demolished and rebuilt by ODOT.
The $8.3 million project is slated to last 15 to 18 months and will impact drivers in the area.
That is why on Wednesday, January 16th at 5:30 p.m., ODOT and the city of Defiance will host a public meeting at the Defiance High School for anyone who has questions or worries about the closure.
The city of Defiance has worked with ODOT for three years in planning this large construction and have prepared for heavier traffic on the only other river crossings at Domersville Road east of the city, and US 24 to the west.
But the traffic patterns may need to be adjusted once the city sees what happens once all the Clinton Street traffic begins taking these detours.
“So, it will be a work in progress as well. But you can expect traffic signalization, you can expect that we will be making modifications so that we can get the traffic to flow as easy as possible,” said Defiance city administrator Jeff Leonard.
Currently, the Clinton Street bridge is scheduled to be completely closed on February 11th. But could be reopened to partial traffic in nine months.
