TOLEDO (WTOL) - It was an unforgettable week for the Toledo football team in the Bahamas, but the season didn’t end the way they would have liked.
The Rockets fell to Florida International University 35-32 Friday afternoon in Nassau. Toledo finished the season at 7-6.
It’s the third straight year the Rockets have lost in the bowl game.
Quarterback Eli Peters went 22-38 and threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. He was also the Rockets leading rusher with 43 yards. The loss also marks the end of a career for Cody Thompson who leaves UT as the leader for touchdown catches in a career.
“It’s going to be tough never being able to put a Toledo Rockets jersey on again,” said Thompson. “I’ve had an amazing ride here. I wouldn’t change anything about my story.”
The Rockets will now have some questions to answer as they look towards next season.
“We have a saying in our program, ‘you don’t get bitter, you get better,’” said Head Coach Jason Candle. “We’re not gonna let this ruin our spirit or ruin our confidence moving forward, but we have to make sure we learn the lessons from these games, whatever those lessons might be.”
