TOLEDO (WTOL) - Springfield High School students are getting in the spirit of Christmas and giving back.
Their gifts will last all year long at ProMedica Children’s Hospital.
Students collected more than 12,000 toys that will be distributed throughout the year at the hospital.
Bedford, Perrysburg, Central and Toledo Public Schools helped Springfield students collect the gifts given to the hospital.
Additionally, the teddy bears from the walleye teddy bear toss were also thrown into the mix.
“This year we really tried to focus on getting the entire Toledo area and the whole community involved and just really giving back the entire holiday season,” said Springfield High School senior Joshua Fox.
Educators say it’s important for students to understand that the spirit of Christmas is not just a once a year thing.
“It's a fabulous time of the year but our gift gives all year long which is awesome!” said Rhonda Kimmons, Principal of Springfield High School.
“We can get so caught up in our own circle of what’s happening. And so to be able to look outside that and see that there are other people in our community who might just need a little encouragement and to know that people care about them is really important,” said Anna Toney, Executive Director of Engage Toledo.
The students are making the spirit of Christmas last all year long.
