TOLEDO (WTOL) - A local church is once again making Christmas brighter for hundreds of local families in need.

The Church on Strayer in Maumee is helping 500 families in need this year as part of their ‘Noel Project’.

The event was founded in 1978 and since then more than 20,000 new bicycles and toys have been given to children in need.

This year the church is providing 1,000 new bicycles, 1,000 new toys and 500 turkeys to families.

Online donations can be made at here by clicking on the “give” button and will be accepted until December 31.

Volunteers can also help assemble bikes at the SeaGate Convention Centre on Friday December 14 from noon until 8 p.m.

The main event will take place on Saturday December 15 at 10 a.m.

Names of families were provided by Toledo Public Schools and Superintendent Romules Durant.
