TOLEDO (WTOL) - Toledo and the surrounding areas know that we love our Mud Hens around here.
Now the rest of the world knows it, too.
Toledo tops the list of Best Minor League Sports Cities in the Country, according to Livability.
The Mud Hens, the Triple A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, have been in the city since 1883, bringing the Governor’s Cup championship to Toledo back-to-back years in 2005 and 2006.
According to Livability, the team was named after the American Coot birds, also known as Mud Hens, that used to populate marshy area nearby the original stadium.
The team’s souvenir store, aptly named The Swamp Shop, is also the largest team store in minor league baseball.
The article also gave a shout out to the Toledo Walleye as yet another reason why Toledo is the #1 place for minor league sports.
