Man who fled from police onto apartment rooftop now in custody

A man is in custody after he ran from police onto an apartment rooftop around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

TOLEDO (WTOL) - A man is in custody and is facing 17 charges after he ran from police onto an apartment rooftop around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Ridney Hunter, 25, was spotted in the neighborhood behind the Olde Towne University Square apartments by the Toledo Police gang unit. According to police reports that’s when he ran, jumped the fence and proceeded to climb on the roof of the apartment complex.

“I live in the apartment right here on the floor level, and I got a UT alert. I looked outside not expecting to see anything and I saw three officers with assault rifles aimed up," explained UT student Jacob Fosnacht.

Toledo Police requested assistance from the Toledo Fire Department to help bring Hunter down from the apartment roof.

A Toledo police officer on the scene said Hunter had warrants out for his arrest.

Hunter’s charges range from carrying a concealed weapon to domestic violence. A loaded 9 millimeter handgun was also found at the scene.

The apartment complex is located near the University of Toledo’s engineering campus.
