Evergreen student was kicked off the bus twice for bullying another student

Bully punishment

SWANTON (WTOL) - Learning your lesson the hard way. That’s what one local man did in an effort to teach his daughter that bullying is wrong.

After Matt Cox’s daughter came home from Evergreen Schools for the second time with a note saying she was suspended from the bus for bullying, he took matters into his own hands.

He decided that she needed to learn bullying was wrong and that transportation was not a right. He had his daughter walk to school, with him trailing behind her in a vehicle and made a video of the trip.

Life lessons!!!! UPDATE: lesson learned! Still has all her extremities intact is happy and healthy and seems to have a new outlook on bullying as well as a new appreciation for some of the simple things in life she used to take for granted #HOLDOURKIDSACOUNTABLE #STOPBULLYING

"So today, my beautiful daughter is going to walk five miles to school in 36 degree weather. I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this, but that is all right. Because I am doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter a lesson and to stop her from bullying," Cox said in the Facebook video, which has been viewed more than 16 million times and has more than 350,000 shares.

Parents online have different opinions about this sort of punishment. But most of them are praising him, saying he's holding his daughter accountable and teaching her a lesson.

Evergreen School District released a statement Thursday, “We respect the rights of parents to discipline their children, however, as educators we are concerned with the safety of our students. We believe there are other avenues to support parents and students in eliminating inappropriate behavior and providing a safe environment for students.”
